Gaming laptops are worked harder than any office machine, and they show it sooner. Kensington Computer Repairs repairs and upgrades Alienware laptops for players across central and south London, from our drop-off on North End Road in West Kensington.
Why your Alienware runs hot
A graphics chip and processor running flat out produce a lot of heat, and the laptop gets rid of it through fans and narrow copper heatsinks. Over time dust clogs the fins and the thermal paste between chip and heatsink dries out. The fans get louder, frame rates drop as the system slows itself down, and eventually the laptop hangs or shuts off in the middle of a game.
The cure is to strip the laptop down, clean the cooling system properly and renew the paste. As a guide, an overheating repair costs £135 + VAT to £165 + VAT. Leave it too long and the heat starts to damage the motherboard, which is a bigger job.
Other faults we fix
- Blank screen or failed screen backlight
- Laptop turns on and off repeatedly
- Repeated beeps at startup
- Frozen screen, or hangs during gaming
- Memory slot failure
- Battery not charging at all
- Keyboard not responding
- Hard drive failure or strange noises
- No WiFi connection, or no sound
- Won’t turn on
Beeps at startup are the laptop reporting a failed self-test, often memory or the motherboard. Count them if you can and tell us the pattern, because it shortens the diagnosis.
Upgrades and replacement parts
An older Alienware can have plenty of life left in it. We fit solid-state drives, larger hard drives and extra memory, and upgrade the operating system. We also replace broken screens, batteries and touchpads, repair motherboards and liquid spill damage, and remove viruses, adware and spyware. Parts are genuine.
If the drive has failed and taken your saves and files with it, we offer laptop data recovery from both hard drives and SSDs.
