Console faults we fix
Most consoles come to us with one of a handful of problems. If yours is on this list, we have almost certainly repaired the same fault before.
- Power supply faults
- Laser not reading discs
- Damaged or loose HDMI port
- Hard drive bad sectors
- Hard drive upgrades when you run out of storage
- Firmware faults and updates
- Excessive fan noise
- Overheating and switching itself off
- Blu-ray drive faults
- WiFi and network problems
- Controllers that won’t sync
A console that cuts out mid-game is usually protecting itself from heat. Dust clogs the fan and heatsink, the fan gets louder, and in the end the machine shuts down before it cooks. Clearing that out properly means taking the console apart, which is exactly what we do.
Discs that won’t read usually point to a worn laser or a tired drive. No picture on the TV very often means a damaged HDMI port, which can be replaced.
Two jobs come up so often that they have pages of their own: PlayStation 4 repair and Xbox One HDMI port replacement.
Why it pays to use a repair shop
A modern console is a small, tightly packed computer. Several of the common repairs, HDMI ports above all, mean soldering tiny components on the motherboard. That takes proper rework equipment and a steady hand.
Every family has an uncle who once revived a Mega Drive by blowing on the cartridge. Thank him kindly, and hide the screwdrivers. One slip inside a console can turn a cheap repair into an expensive one.
You could post the console back to the manufacturer instead, but most gamers would sooner not wait that long. A repair with us generally takes a day. You get a free, no-obligation estimate first, and all work is guaranteed with a warranty that covers the parts.
“My console just turned itself off in the middle of a game. Not okay. Thought about sending the system back to Sony but didn’t want the hassle of that. You guys fixed the problem in no time. Ace service. Thanks.”
